[Review] First Impressions of the game

Been a long time since we updated a journal

But not to fret, sent me a small review of the game. Here's what she has to say:

When I walked into the game section of Fred Meyers this evening, I intended to buy Chrono Trigger for the DS... until I saw Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume for sale at $40. I wasn't going to buy it because of the strong Squaresoft influence on the character design, but being the hardcore fan that I am, I got it anyway.

I'm not even that far into the game right now and it's fabulous. In this game Valkyries leave a plume from their wings with the bodies of the dead, to signify that their souls have been chosen for Vahalla. You play as Wylfred, a young man who swears vengeance on Lenneth Valkyrie for taking his father as an einherjar, and makes a deal with Hel to turn the plume left at his father's body black with sin so that he may, in a year's time, kill the Lenneth Valkyrie. You do this by attaining overkill in battle AND BY KILLING YOUR ALLIES. Freaking crazy, and while the character design seems a little Sqaure-ish, in game it still has that VP feel to it, particularly the music and storyline. It's not bad.

The 3D cutscenes are pretty cool to watch, and the men are hotties, as usual.

The battle system is a combination of tactics (much like FF tactics) and original VP 1 battle system, it's definitely strategy through and through. Actually, I'm really surprised they've managed to pull it off so far, it's pretty fun. Hardcore VP fans should definitely give it a chance, and this is coming from someone who was against getting the game to begin with.

I will personally be trying to play my first run-through without killing any of my allies. We'll see where that puts me with Hel of Nifelheim - hopefully she won't feed me to her hell-hound, Garm...
